Molecular Flashlights That Light up Science

چکیده
This article is based on an interview between Prof. Martin Chalfie and Noa Segev. Scientists investigate things by observation. They look at a phenomenon that interests them try to understand it, using the most advanced tools they have. It often challenging for scientists see measure what want study, because go beyond had been previously seen. The development of modern imaging techniques has allowed could not before. In this article, I will tell you about one those breakthroughs in imaging, wonderful glowing protein called green fluorescent (GFP). GFP only changed my life, but lives many other scientists, ultimately non-scientists as well. Among things, allows us detect observe activity proteins whole cells living animals, genes code specific proteins. By end hope much more how it lights up science.

Interactive flashlights in special needs education
Flashlight torches are cheap, robust, familiar and fun and so make interesting devices upon which to base interaction technologies. Computer vision software has been developed that can recognise and distinguish between different flashlight beams and these can be used to activate digital media including audio, video or special effects. The technology appears to ’magically bring to life’ objects ...
متن کاملVisually-tracked Flashlights as Interaction Devices
We describe a technique for visually tracking flashlights so that they can be used as fun, cheap, intuitive and safe interaction devices with a wide range of surfaces. Our implementation includes a run-time system for tracking flashlight beams as they appear in a video image and an interface for dynamically configuring targets on the surface and associating them with sound files. We present two...
متن کاملMolecular eyes: proteins that transform light into biological information
Most biological photoreceptors are protein/cofactor complexes that induce a physiological reaction upon absorption of a photon. Therefore, these proteins represent signal converters that translate light into biological information. Researchers use this property to stimulate and study various biochemical processes conveniently and non-invasively by the application of light, an approach known as ...

he goal of the Thermosphere, Ionosphere, Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics (TIMED) mission is to characterize the physical, dynamic, energetic, and thermal structure of Earth’s mesosphere, lower thermosphere, and ionosphere (MLTI) between 60 and 180 km and to understand quantitatively the processes that govern its temporal and spatial variability. Because the MLTI is at the interface between i...

A nimal research has been and remains crucial to the development of modern medicine. The reasons for ongoing research are manifold from finding ways to treat cancer to understanding the mechanisms behind neurodegeneration to developing new vaccines against HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. Nearly all of us benefit from medical treatments made possible through animal research, and with so mu...
